2023 Fellowship program

SFCDC is proud to help cultivate the next generation of local community development practitioners and advocates. In 2023, we are launching a new Fellowship program for college students in undergrad or grad school as well as recent graduates (class of 2022) looking to gain hands-on experience in our local ecosystem. This program is designed to provide real world experience to develop soft and technical skills that are transferable and valuable to pursuing a career in community development or the nonprofit sector.

We will accept 3-5 fellows who will work with our coalition approximately 10-15 hours per week over a 12-16 week period, depending on the semester start. Fellows are able to apply for specific roles based on their interest, skills, and background. The current roles available for Spring 2023 include:

  • Operations Fellow: Responsible for facilitating general administrative needs such as liaising with the Board of Directors, researching grants, coordinating meetings, and creating or implementing systems and procedures for the coalition and/or organization at-large

  • Policy Research Fellow: Responsible for conducting research on national, state, and/or local housing and economic development policies to develop or archive resources
  • Public Affairs Fellow: Responsible for tracking and coordinating governmental engagement opportunities with public administration and/or officials across municipalities in South Florida
  • Advocacy Fellow: Responsible for facilitating, planning, and activating advocacy opportunities related to the coalition’s priorities as well as developing popular education content to raise awareness on campaigns and initiatives

In addition to their roles where each fellow will gain hands-on real world experience working in a nonprofit environment, the fellows have the opportunity to work on specific projects to help advance our mission. These projects can be customized to fit course or program capstone requirements if needed. Fellows are also able to audit our training workshops to learn from our existing programs.

There is no GPA requirement and all college majors and academic programs are eligible to apply. A moderate monthly stipend will be provided to each fellow for the duration of the program. The program is available to local students only. The majority of the program is virtual, however there will be various in-person activities or meetings required. The fellowship includes specific benchmarks for their projects as well as a weekly check-in meeting with the Executive Director for mentorship and project oversight.

To apply, interested candidates should complete their application via this Google Form. For more information or questions, please contact us via email at info@sfcdcoalition.org.
